Crew is a physically demanding sport, and the safety of every athlete is our highest priority. Before participating in any practice, all rowers must complete the VHSL Physical Form, swim test, and liability waiver. These documents must be submitted in person to a coach or emailed to membership@oaktoncrew.com before the rower will be cleared to practice.

VHSL PHYSICAL FORM

Every athlete must complete and submit a current VHSL Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Physical Examination Form to be eligible to join the Oakton High School Crew Team. The form must be completed and signed by the athlete, a parent or guardian, and an authorized medical provider. Athletes may not participate in team practices, conditioning, or other athletic activities until the completed form has been submitted and approved.

SWIM TEST FORM

For safety, every new rower must successfully complete the team’s swim test before being permitted to enter or row in a crew boat. Athletes who have not completed the test may participate in approved land-based training but may not take part in on-the-water activities. The team will provide families with information about swim-test dates, locations, and requirements in advance.

WAIVER - RELEASE OF LIABILITY

Signing the waiver is required to participate in Oakton Crew activities. It confirms that rowers and parents understand and accept the inherent risks of rowing, agree to follow team and SafeSport rules, and will report unsafe conditions. It also releases Oakton Crew and affiliated parties from certain liability and confirms the participant is physically fit and free from known communicable disease concerns.
