OAKTON HIGH SCHOOL CREW

Official Website of the Oakton Cougar Crew Boosters Club

Every Stroke. Every Season. Powered by You.

Oakton Cougar Crew receives no funding from Fairfax County Public Schools. No athletic department budget. No school-allocated resources. Every boat on the water, every regatta entry, every scholarship that keeps a deserving athlete on the team — it all comes from people like you: parents, alumni, and community members who believe in what this program does for young people.

In the 2025–2026 season, Oakton Crew athletes trained through early mornings and cold winter conditioning sessions, many of them having picked up an oar for the very first time just months before. Two boats earned the right to compete at SRAA Nationals — the national championship of scholastic rowing. That kind of success doesn't happen by accident, and it doesn't happen without support.

Your donation directly funds the athletes, equipment, and opportunities that make Oakton Crew one of Northern Virginia's most competitive high school rowing programs. Here's exactly where your gift goes.

ROWING EQUIPMENT

A competitive rowing program runs on equipment — and rowing equipment is expensive to buy, costly to maintain, and critical to athlete safety. Racing shells, oars, ergometers, and safety launches require ongoing investment that no school budget covers.

When you give to Oakton Crew's equipment fund, you're helping purchase and maintain:

  • Racing shells — the boats our athletes train and compete in every day

  • Oars — precision equipment that wears with use and must be replaced regularly

  • Ergometers — the rowing machines our athletes train on through four months of winter conditioning

  • Safety and coaching launches — motorized safety boats that accompany every on-water practice

Well-maintained equipment isn't just about performance. It's about giving every Oakton athlete — from the varsity rower competing at nationals to the novice who just passed their swim test — the tools they need to train safely and compete with confidence.

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Crew is a sport that asks a lot of families. Membership dues cover coaching, equipment maintenance, regatta fees, and program operations — and we work hard to keep them as low as possible. But for some families, the cost of participation is still a barrier.

Our scholarship fund exists to make sure that no motivated, committed student-athlete is left on the dock because of financial hardship. Scholarship recipients go through the same training, compete in the same regattas, and contribute just as much to the team as any other member. The only difference is that someone — maybe you — made it possible for them to be there.

If you rowed at Oakton and know what this program gave you, consider giving that same opportunity to a student who needs a hand up. A scholarship gift of any size makes a direct, measurable difference in a young person's life.

TRAVEL & RACES

Regattas are what all the early mornings and winter conditioning sessions are for — and getting there takes real resources. VASRA regatta fees, transportation to and from Sandy Run, and travel to away competitions like the Stotesbury Cup and SRAA Nationals all require funding that goes well beyond what dues alone can cover.

In 2025–2026, Oakton Crew qualified two boats for SRAA Nationals — the national championship regatta for scholastic rowing programs. That achievement represents months of preparation and a level of competitive excellence that puts Oakton among the best high school crew programs in the country. Reaching that stage requires more than talent and hard work. It requires the financial support to get there.

Your gift to the travel and races fund helps ensure that when Oakton athletes earn the right to compete on the biggest stages in scholastic rowing, cost is never the reason they can't go.
