Oakton Crew uses several communications platforms in our effort to keep athletes and families up-to-date with team announcements, events, volunteer needs, regatta information, pasta dinner locations, etc.
Announcements, notices of Board Meetings, and event dates are published on the home page of this website and on the CALENDAR; to help us keep you informed, please consider signing up for our other communications platforms:
The monday catch
The Monday Catch is our regular email newsletter, and is the #1 source of information throughout the season: it contains practice updates for the week, event news, volunteer shifts, and anything you might need to know to be a part of the Oakton Crew community. We highly recommend that all students and at least one parent from each family subscribe.
Upon registration, your email address will also be added to an announcements-only list, for team announcements from the Board.
General announcements promoting team events and highlights are posted on our Oakton Crew Twitter account, and we also use Twitter for immediate announcements regarding practice cancellations or time changes. We use Twitter to repost regatta results from VASRA on race days during the season, and we update parking information via tweet as well.
If you don't have a Twitter account, you can still keep up with our latest missives on this site's homepage, or you can review the history HERE.
Crew operates a Slack channel open solely to current teammates, coaches, and families, for daily communications; since this channel is private, Slack is the preferred forum to post addresses for pasta parties, lost-and-found notices, questions about daily carpool changes, etc.
As part of registration, families will be sent an invitation for Slack. Slack is available as an app for your phone, or can also be viewed on your desktop or iPad. Questions? email@example.com

Oakton Crew operates an official Instagram account, @oaktoncrew, which features photos from practices, regattas, pasta parties, images of rainbows over the boathouse and bald eagles when we can catch them with a camera, and anything else we think will highlight the sport and team we love so much.
@crewgars is an unofficial, private, student-run account, which we are told is much more entertaining than the official Crew Instagram.
