Girls College Rowing Info - Bucknell

Bucknell rowing site

Academically, Bucknell is unique. With 3350 students and an average class size of 17 or less, it combines the personal feel and attention of a small college, but has the academic and athletic resources of a large university. In addition to a broad liberal arts college curriculum, we also offer strong professional programs in engineering, business, education, and music performance. Most importantly, the quality of the experience offered at Bucknell is second to none. And to top it all off, Bucknell has one of the most beautiful campuses in the country.

Athletically, we believe our women's rowing program will provide you with one of the most balanced and exciting opportunities in all of college athletics. We believe in helping our rowers to become scholar-athletes, highly competitive in both the classroom and on the water. To learn more about the rowing program, please visit our website. I am sure you will enjoy the team journal entries and photo galleries. The practice schedule and highlight video are also worth taking a look at. Visiting the general university website and taking the virtual tour is also a good idea.

It is a very exciting time to be part of Women's Rowing at Bucknell. Most recently we won the 2007 ECAC Metro Regatta and the Patriot League Championship, by winning all of the varsity events in both weekends. Another highlight of this spring was competing against teams from Princeton, Penn and Dartmouth and coming away from that meet with a few victories.

In the fall of 2006 we won the Collegiate 4+ event at the Head of the Charles Regatta. Last spring, in 2006, our team won their first Patriot League Championship Regatta. Also in 2006 our lightweight women’s 8+ took 6th place at the IRA National Championship Regatta.

Over the past six years we have been growing and progressing by leaps and bounds. We traveled to the Women's Henley in England twice over the past six years, winning the Coxed Four in 2000 and reaching the semifinals of the Eight in 2004. We will return to Henley in 2008. Yearly highlights include the Head of the Charles, winter and spring training trips to Florida and Georgia and we added a trip to the San Diego Crew Classic this April.

We do quite a bit of sculling during the fall season (we'll teach you if you don't know how), and during the spring we focus on lightweight and openweight eights and fours. Our spring roster holds 50-70 women and our staff expanded to four full-time coaches last fall.

Our program has experienced quite a bit of success. Our openweights have won medals at the Dad Vail regatta in four of the past six years. In 2003 our lightweight eight was ranked fourth in the nation after winning the Dad Vail. In 2004 the lightweights won silver and were selected to represent Bucknell at the Henley Women's Regatta in England. Our alumni rowers are succeeding as well and have competed at the World Championships as well as the Olympics.

We do have a lightweight team. They are currently training on campus for the IRA regatta at the beginning of June.
